Paid Holiday Policies

We are looking to extend our paid holidays to our craft workers and mechanics (currently only clerical/management gets paid holidays).  Our concern is that more people will request the dates before and/or after a paid holiday as PTO than we can approve and still keep jobs functioning.  I have heard of paid holiday policies that address this - we don't want to make anything too complicated or restrictive but we also don't want to set ourselves up for a big problem.  How do other companies address this?

    Thank you!

    Hi Michelle!
Our field employees qualify for holiday pay after they've been here one year.  In order to get paid for it, they have to work the day before and the day after unless a vacation or PTO day was approved ahead of time.

Michelle...  We currently allow all workers paid holiday after one year.  They also must work the day before and the day after the paid holiday time.  The exception that some take vacation but it must be requested two weeks in advance to still qualify.

As for the PST - we have it stipulated in both our PST and Holiday policies that you cannot use PST to replace the holiday.  Actually we had to point it out quite a few times with new hires this past July 4th.
