On Monday afternoon, one of our crew members collapsed on the jobsite.  Two of his co-workers administered CPR until emergency services arrived, he left the site with a pulse and was later conscious at the hospital.  I did an initial debrief with the 4 co-workers who were with him at the time that evening.  Later that night, he passed away.  Arriving at the office yesterday morning faced with the task of telling his co-workers, those that were with him and the many others he has worked with over the past two years, was a daunting task.  Thankfully, I knew who to call and Cal Beyer guided me through the process.  I wanted to share the resources that were so helpful to me yesterday with everyone so that the next company faced with this situation has them available.

The company I used to have a counselor onsite and then set up an 800 number for our employees to call to talk to a counselor for the next month is R3 Continuum - (866) 927-0184, R3 Continuum: Ready, Respond, Recover

This article that Cal co-authored was very helpful, as was the attached document that we distributed to the employees.

I don't wish this situation on any company, but wanted to at least pay forward the great work of Cal should it be helpful to others.
